Specialised Programs For Schools & Special Education Needs

Developing Moves offers specialised programs that meet students exactly where they are, making chess an accessible and deeply beneficial learning experience for all children, including those with Special Educational Needs (SEN).

Developing Moves serves fee-paying schools, and home-schooled children.

Please note we do not serve state schools, which are supported by the excellent Chess in Schools and Communities charity.

Our inclusive approach leverages chess to provide unique therapeutic and educational benefits:

Structured Learning:

Chess provides a clear, rule-based environment that naturally reinforces logic, sequencing, and concentration – boosting attainment in subjects like Maths and Science.

Executive Function:

Our lessons are designed to improve memory, flexible thinking, and self-control, providing crucial support for classroom management and focus.

Managing Missteps and Mistakes:

The game offers a safe space to encounter and process defeat, fostering genuine emotional regulation and a growth mindset. Learning to accept a mistake and adjust is a powerful life lesson.

Visual & Kinaesthetic Learning:

The physical, tactile nature of the game engages visual and kinaesthetic learners, providing an alternative path to cognitive development that goes beyond traditional text-based instruction.

Social Inclusion:

Small group sessions promote structured, positive social interaction and communication.

Service Offering:

Multi-week modular programs, clubs, and tailored full-day and half-day workshops.
